Artists' reception this Friday

Meet the makers of this gorgeous piece of work, Rita and Steve Lohr, local mixed media artists, at Park Place Gallery of Fine Art this Friday during the Johnson County Canvas Arts Crawl. The artists will be at the opening reception from 5-8 p.m., Oct. 16, and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Oct. 17. The show will run through Nov. 20.

The other galleries on the tour include The Rice Gallery of Fine Art, Leawood Fine Art, Prairiebrooke Gallery and Eva Reynolds Fine Art.

Upcoming rain barrel workshop

There's been a lot of talk about saving energy lately, but you should also think about saving water, another resource often wasted. One of the easiset ways is to hook a rain barrel up to your gutters. For those of you who like to get hands-on, Straw, Sticks and Bricks is hosting a rain barrel workshop October 2 during First Fridays. Kansas City metro area Massage Envy locations are teaming up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to raise money to fight breast cancer. One day only – Monday, September 15 – you pay $35 for a one-hour session and $10 will be donated to the cause. Additional donations also will be accepted and go directly to the local community.
